The Agenda of “2 Mothers Against Legal Drug Dealers In White Coats”
A King’s Daughter’s Ministry was birthed from the death of my son, Travis Bryan Walls. He overdosed on legal prescription drugs in August of 2008. He was 25 years old. This ministry was recognized by the State of Florida as a non-profit corporation on June 8th, 2009.
Helping Those Who Are Bound
AKD Ministry is dedicated to helping those individuals who are or know someone who is bound to addictions. These various types of addictions may include drugs, gambling, food, or sex. Addictions hinder the performance of daily duties to one’s self, family, career, or health. They consume one’s mind and soul and steal a proper sense of responsibility to society and family.
The loss of my son in 2008 resulted from the overdose of prescription drugs prescribed by a Florida state licensed medical doctor. Within a 642-day period, Travis legally purchased 1,938 Methadone pills, 996 Alprazolam pills, as well as prescriptions for Loratab and Ultram. Three months prior to my son’s death, 31 year old, Daniel Lewis, overdosed from prescribed drugs under the same doctor’s care. Within 114 days he was prescribed 1,070 Alprazolam pills, 1,040 Methadone pills, 670 Loratab pills, and Soma pill. Neither patient was given medical examinations, blood tests, or X-rays. There was NO medical evidence to support the massive prescriptions. The mixture of these prescribed drugs was obviously FATAL. Doctors take an oath to care for their patients not kill them.
Changing the Pharmaceutical Industry
We plan to devote our energies to bring about change in the State of Florida and the national legislative arena. Laws must hold doctors, pharmacies, and the pharmaceutical industry liable for their actions. The pharmaceutical industry is aware of the drugs flooding the streets and being placed in the hands of young men and women. The pharmaceutical industry is persistently distributing “new drugs” which are becoming more addictive and effective in keeping young people ever more dependent on pills. We are allowing the greed and power of these doctors, pharmacies, and the pharmaceutical industry to diminish the purpose and destiny of future generations.
The pharmaceutical industry has gained billions of dollars at the cost of many lives. They should be forced to funnel funds into the rehabilitation of these injured lives and into the hands of those who have suffered from this obvious disrespect of humanity and undeniable greed and power. We must take a stand! The purpose of this ministry is to be a loud and effective voice to protect our society from this “drug mill” activity.
Please keep in mind that bar and restaurant owners are held responsible for continuing to serve alcohol to the intoxicated persons who drive away from their establishments. The liabilities for damage they may create are then rightly carried by owners of these establishments.
Substance Abuse and the Youth
The beginning average age of substance abuse is 13 years old. Young minds are altered and motivation depleted; self-esteem is diminished, and a slow and subtle spiral downward of precious life is robbed. I have taken an oath to my son and those whose lives may be affected in the future to make a difference. This ministry prayerfully will provide housing and a safe haven to rebuild their lives with a sturdy foundation to make them respectful and productive members of society. In addition, we intend to provide counseling to educate them on addiction and provide tools to “set them free” from drug dependency.
I am a living witness that anyone can overcome addiction and be restored to live the purposeful life intended by God, filled with joy and expectation! With proper tools and materials – all things can become beautiful again!
